Common Nintendo Wii Misspelling – Nintendo Wiis, Nintendo Wee, Nintendowii, Nintendo We, Nintendo Wiii

Are Nintendo Wii retailers losing traffic due to consumer misspelling?

The Nintendo Wii is a strange name for a video game console and it is the cause for many misspelled search queries.  The most common Nintendo Wii misspelling terms are Nintendo Wiis, Nintendo Wee, Nintendowii, Nintendo We, and Nintendo Wiii.  These four terms are not just searched a few times they are searched thousands of times per month.  I was amazed to find out how many times the Nintendo Wii was misspelled during a search.  I myself never had any issues with how to spell the Nintendo Wii correctly so I never thought that it would be such a large amount of people who would do so.  However, if you think about it the Wii appeals to a vast audience that ranges from kids to adults around the world.  With this diverse population you are bound to have a large amount of people who are unaware of Nintendo's special spelling of the Wii.

Here is the number of misspelled searches that occur for these exact terms on a monthly bases:

Nintendowii: 9,900
Nintendo Wiis: 9,900
Nintendo Wee: 8,100
Nintendo We: 2,900
Nintendo Wiii: 1,900

That's a total of 32,700 misspelled searches on average for the Nintendo Wii per month.  That's a huge amount of traffic that is just wasted and going to non-targeted sites.  I'm wondering if Nintendo took this in consideration when choosing the name of their video game console.  This can be a bad thing for both the retailer and consumer.  This is bad for the retailer since they may be losing customers because of the buyers misspelling the Nintendo Wii and bad for the consumer for not finding what they are looking for.  With this in mind I suggest that retailers consider how much sales they may be losing to the simple fact that buyers are unaware of the correct spelling of the Nintendo Wii.  This means that Wii sites need to include Nintendo Wiis, Nintendo Wee, Nintendowii, Nintendo We, and Nintendo Wiii into their keyword arsenal to be able to traffic in all the potential Nintendo Wii customers.
